The Fistula Foundation

Fistula–a heartbreaking condition that when untreated leaves women incontinent–affects more than 2 million women worldwide, many of them in Africa. The Fistula Foundation is one of the largest supporters of the Hamlin Fistula Hospitals in Ethiopia, which helps some 2,000 women with fistula each year. The main hospital in Addis Ababa’s capital is recognized as a Global Center of Excellence for its pioneering approach to fistula care. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Foundation provides support for the Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, which treats women with traumatic fistula.

Our long-term goal is to ensure that any woman needing treatment for fistula receives it and is returned to a state of health and dignity.

The Foundation adheres to the highest standards for financial management and is dedicated to keeping operating expenses low. Since 2006 the Foundation has earned the Better Business Bureau Seal for meeting its Standards for Charity Accountability and 4-Star ratings from the charity rating service Charity Navigator, ranking the Foundation in the top 11 percent of all nonprofits evaluated.
